Laporte’s: a family café and restaurant tradition

This year is Laporte’s 10 year anniversary. Founded in 2006 by Tanya Laporte and her daughter Indianna Dabson. Having found a shop which had been empty for some time, Tanya and Indianna brought together all that they felt passionate about, Food, Art and Antiques.

Initially opened as a Takeaway, Gallery and Produce Store they quickly ran out of room and moved across the road to open their doors 1st November 2010.

570_IndiTanya_01With a beautiful flint walled garden and a fully equipped kitchen, Laporte’s now offers a full menu with vegan and vegetarian options including locally sourced meat from the nearby farm, Holmansbridge in Barcombe. All food prepared in the kitchen is available to purchase in the well stocked produce store, incorporating the local Farmer’s Market Produce and including Organic and Fair Trade items.

The Gallery has an eclectic mix of Local Artists, generally changing each month. Old items of curiosity and furniture regularly feature in the ever changing window display and in the recently converted garage accessed through the Garden. You never know what treasures Tanya may find on her travels!

Food and the Catering Industry has been in Tanya and Indianna’s blood for generations. Tanya’s Grandparents, Germain & Madeleine Laporte had a restaurant called Le Select on the Champs Elysee and may be glimpsed in the film An American in Paris. Tanya’s Great Grandfather was Patissier at Maison Mongelard, 44 Rue d’Auteuil. Have a look at the photos for a trip back in time.

570_leselect_07In our Produce Store we take delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables three times a week. Our bread from Real Patisserie and Lighthouse Bakery is delivered fresh, daily. We stock a wide range of some of the finest, locally produced foods Sussex has to offer including Ouse Valley, Cocoa Loco, Goupie of Hawkhurst, Holmansbridge Meats, Goodwood Organic Milk and Cream, Downsview Dairy Milk and Ice Cream, Sussex High Weald Dairy and many more. We also have weekly deliveries from Infinity Foods in Brighton.

570_produce_02We try to keep our impact on the environment low and continue our ethos of reduce, reuse and recycle. We also offer a Britta Water Filter recycle service. Just drop your cartridges into the box provided. Sorry, only Britta Cartridges at this stage.

We hope you enjoy browsing our site and look forward to welcoming you when you come to visit.

Best wishes
Tanya and Indianna
